Our programmes

Water confidence for women and children

Our water confidence programme supports women and children from migrant and high deprivation communities to grow their skills in water safety and swimming. These communities are over-represented in NZ’s drowning statistics.

Community groups have told us that there are significant barriers to growing their water confidence skills, both cost-related and the lack of programmes that respect their cultural identity.

Our programme supports women and children to keep safe in New Zealand's waters and take part in water-based activities alongside other New Zealanders. Our programme also provides an opportunity for often isolated migrant women and children to meet and socialise with others in similar circumstances.

Our water confidence programme is currently available in Wellington City, Porirua, Palmerston North, and Te Atatu.

Futsal for tamariki

Delivered in partnership with Capital Football, our futsal programme supports Year 2-8 tamariki from schools with large migrant and high deprivation communities to get active, learn futsal skills and have fun alongside their peers.

Our programme delivers in-school clinics to around 1100 tamariki in Wellington’s Eastern suburbs and is supporting around 200 kids to participate in the Capital Football Futsal League.

Drama school experience

Our drama programme is supporting tamariki at a central Wellington primary school to experience participation in a professional drama programme run by Standouts’ Gemma Schapleski, and working towards an all of school production in Term 3, 2023.

Music - introduction to percussion and ukulele

In partnership with Wellington Music Centre our music programme is providing the opportunity for Year 4 students at a school in Wellington’s Eastern suburbs to take part in a six-week percussion and ukulele programme run by professional music tutors to inspire their interest in music.

Art extension programme

Our art programme offers talent young artists in Years 3-6 at a school in Wellington’s Eastern suburbs to learn basic screen-printing techniques from a professional art tutor.
